Union Pacific Contributes to Northern Region Food Banks

Union Pacific representatives present a UP Foundation grant to the Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva, Ill. Union Pacific recently contributed $80,000, distributed in $10,000 increments, to eight food banks in its northern region states to purchase 1.6 million pounds of food, or enough to fill eight boxcars.

"It's during tough times like these, and throughout our history, Union Pacific has assisted the communities in which we operate to help them through times of need," said Joe Bateman, vice president-Public Affairs. "We are pleased to be able to once again help our neighbors."

With the $10,000 contribution, each food bank will purchase 200,000 pounds of food or 150,000 meals. Among the food bank recipients are:

  • Food Bank of the Rockies , Colorado;
  • Northern Illinois Food Bank, Illinois;
  • Food Bank of Iowa, Iowa;
  • Kansas Food Bank, Kansas;
  • The Community Action Partnership Agency Food Shelf, Minnesota;
  • The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri, Missouri;
  • FoodBank for the Heartland, Nebraska, and
  • Needs, Inc., Wyoming
