Your Life is Worth the Wait

Time waits for no one. Say you’re late for your dream job interview when railroad gates come down as you're headed to the office. Or you’re out past curfew and a train comes down the tracks toward the crossing that’s blocking your path. You may think you can get around the crossing arms and outrun the train to save a few minutes, but trust us, your life is worth the wait.

If the red lights are flashing and the crossing arms are down, always assume a train is coming, even if you can’t see it. It can take a mile or more for the train to stop. A train’s weight compared to an automobile's is similar to the weight of a car compared to a tin can. Spoiler alert: It doesn’t end well for the tin can.

Put your safety first and wait. It doesn’t matter why you’re running late or how far away the train appears. Never go around railroad gates, and never stop on railroad tracks.
