Setting the Record Straight About Rates After the Merger
To Our Customers, You've heard a lot of noise from the opposition lately, most of it is built on flat-out inaccurate claims about what Union Pacific will do with rates once this merger is approved. So let me set the record straight. We are going to compete hard for new truckload-to-rail business, and we are going to keep competing every single day for the volume you give us now. Our competitors are afraid to compete. We're not, and we say it plainly, right in the application. We're going after market share -- from other railroads, from trucks, from anyone who's gotten comfortable. We want to grow with you. And when we compete hard for your business, you win, because competition forces better rates and the marketplace has no choice but to respond.

Status of the Railroad - A Message from Kenny Rocker, EVP, Marketing & Sales
To Our Customers,  Before I move into my regular monthly update, I need to take a minute and address the inaccurate claims last week by Canadian National Railway (CN) regarding the Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern merger. The traffic study included in our filings with the Surface Transportation Board was conducted by the same expert CN used for its Iowa Northern merger and applies the same methodology. It provides a reliable estimate of the traffic the combined Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern expect to attract by offering a more competitive, more efficient single-line service. As I said earlier this year, misinformation like this damages rail’s credibility, shakes confidence in the marketplace and distracts from what matters most: more competition and a better customer experience.

To Our Customers, 2025 was a strong year for Union Pacific. We delivered our best-ever full-year results across safety, service and operating performance, including personal injury, derailment rates, freight car velocity and terminal dwell, most of which led the industry. The team is consistently delivering at the highest levels and I am confident that’s what we’ll continue to do.

Addressing UP-NS Merger Misinformation
To Our Customers, Since the announcement of the Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern merger in July — and again this week — our competitors have circulated messaging that's purposely misleading. We expected it. They realize the only way they can compete with our seamless, single-line service and streamlined customer experience is to improve their service, lower their prices or both. Accuracy matters, misinformation like this damages rail's credibility, shakes confidence in the marketplace and pulls focus from what matters most: more competition and a better customer experience.
