California Wildfires, Southern Region Flooding Impacting Rail Operations

Announcement Number: CN2016-17
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: August 18, 2016

To Our Customers,

Wildfires near Los Angeles have impacted rail operations in our Western Region, specifically the Mojave and Cajon subdivisions. A bridge north of Los Angeles caught fire and is expected to take several days to repair. Because of the impact to bridges in the area, traffic moving north from Los Angeles and south from Roseville, California, is being re-routed. Additionally, the Cajon Pass recently re-opened. This route is quite congested at this point, but we are slotting some trains to pass through the area. Customers with shipments traveling through this part of Southern California should expect 72- to 96-hour delays.

Flooding in the Southern Region has negatively impacted crew availability but had minimal impact on track and bridges. One washout near Fort Worth will be repaired by tomorrow morning, and delays are expected to be minimal in that region.

Thank you for your business. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.
