In order to provide reliable and efficient service to our customers, Union Pacific continues to invest heavily in its rail network. We invested approximately $3.2B in capital during 2011 and are continuing to make significant investments in 2012. In order to generate an acceptable level of return on our investments for maintenance and expansion of our extensive infrastructure in the future, we must review and adjust our transportation rates accordingly. These rates will be published at market levels, with all rates subject to Union Pacific's carload mileage fuel surcharge provision. We are providing our customers with advance notice so that they can plan for these adjustments.
Effective August 1, 2012, the following document will be adjusted:
UPRR 2952 Roofing Shingles- Average Increase 6%
Specific rates by commodity and lane will be updated and available in our Prices and Price Documents Inquiry.
For notification of availability of prices and future changes, go to MyUPRR, choose "Change" from the Notifications section in the left navigation bar, and then select "Price Documents".
