Continued Capital Investment
Union Pacific continues to invest heavily in its rail network in order to provide reliable and efficient service to our customers. We invested approximately $3.2B in capital during 2011. Our plan for 2012 is $3.6B. In order to generate an acceptable level of return so that we can continue to invest in the replacement and expansion of our extensive infrastructure, we must review and adjust our transportation rates accordingly.

 Price Adjustments UPRR 24 and I5CR 245- Effective September 1, 2012

Lumber, Wallboard, and Miscellaneous Wood Product rates expiring on August 31, 2012 will remain unchanged for most lanes. There are exceptions for a few group to group rates in the following UPRR 24 item numbers: 1003,1004, 1012, 1203, 1211, 1215, 1222, 1309, 1310, 1501, 1503, and I5CR item 1605

Plywood and OSB boxcar rates expiring on August 31, 2012 will remain unchanged for most lanes. 73' Centerbeam rates for moves originating in the Pacific Northwest, Inland Region and Western Canada will be increased by 7%. Additionally, there are exceptions for a few group to group rates in the following item numbers: 1607, 1609, 1612 and 1803.

Particle Board, and Engineered Wood Products rates expiring on August 31, 2012 will remain unchanged for most lanes. There are exceptions for a few group to group rates in the following item numbers: 1711, 1714 and 1909. 

All rates are subject to Union Pacific's carload mileage based fuel surcharge provision and will be published with an expiration date of February 28, 2013. Rates are subject to selective increases with a 30 day notification. Specific rates by commodity and lane will be updated and available in our Prices and Price Documents inquiry and Tariff Library as they become available in August.
