Dear Intermodal Customer:

Union Pacific is pleased to announce improvements to our Oakland, CA intermodal terminal.  Over the coming months we will be replacing our older Automatic Gate System (AGS) with a new AGS system. This new system will provide state-of-the-art technologies designed to increase efficiencies and improve driver turn times. The new system will reduce driver wait times at the gate and improve image and data collection as well as data integrity. Construction at the Oakland terminal begins on Wednesday January 16, 2013 and will last between 6 to 8 weeks. During this construction period the gates will be operated manually with personnel in the lanes with hand held devices.  Drivers may experience slightly longer gate processing times during this period.
To ensure a smooth transition, we need your assistance during the manual gate operation period. Please inform your drivers that they will need to pre-register with the new system. Drivers can do this by stopping into the help office during the manual gate operations period to register. This only needs to be done once in the 6 to 8 week period. If drivers do not pre-register, they will be unable to process through the new AGS system and will experience delays when the system is activated. Drivers will need their drivers licence and SCAC code to register.

Driver pre-registration will be available starting on Monday, February 18th, 2013.

Thank you for your commitment to Intermodal and Union Pacific Railroad.

Sincerely

Intermodal Business Team
