Get eRailSafe Certified: Initiate the Process with Union Pacific

eRailSafe provides the testing, background checks and badging required for current employees and future applicants to meet U.S. Department of Homeland Security standards. The program includes a one-time $25 setup fee per licensee or contractor company. Training is $7 per person, paid by the licensee or contractor. After completion, individuals can print a 2-year certificate, which must be accessible on Union Pacific property. To initiate the certificaiton, follow these steps:

1. Complete the Vendor Statement of Business and Legal Relationships (VSBL) form and return it to your contract administrator.
2. After receiving your contract, use the vendor ID from the cover letter to create an online account on the eRailSafe website. 
3. Complete the certification training, test and photo submission to receive your ID card. Note: Background checks are conducted. 
4. Depending on your contract, additional training or certifications may be required.

Badges may take up to 2 weeks to arrive. Enroll early to avoid delays.

Meet Criteria for eRailSafe Access

Applicants must pass a comprehensive background check – required by all railroads – including a 7-year SSN trace and in-person courthouse record retrieval, validated for employment use. Access to Union Pacific property may be denied if an applicant has:

• A felony conviction or plea within the past 7 years
• Release from a penal institution within the past 5 years
• Active misdemeanor or felony warrants
• Social Security fraud alerts
• A canceled background check by the contractor
• A history of crimes of concern*, including crimes against persons, violent crimes, crimes involving weapons, theft or fraud or drug-related offenses
