Rail corridors contributed by Union Pacific rank among Iowa's premiere biking and hiking trails.

Among them are the nationally recognized High Trestle Trail between Woodward and Ankeny in central Iowa. UP also made significant donations to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation that made it possible to convert seven miles of former rail corridor into a multi-purpose trail between Bondurant and Berwick, Iowa. That section will link the Chichaqua Valley Trail to the Central Iowa trail system serving the Des Moines metro region.

With four prior donations, Union Pacific also helped establish the JewEllsworth Trail, Rolling Prairie Trail and the Dawson-Waukee portion of Raccoon River Valley Trail.

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and state legislators recognized Union Pacific's gift during a ceremony April 1 at the Iowa State Capitol.
