Union Pacific Railroad recognized 12 customers and suppliers in the railroad’s first-ever 2023 Sustainability Partner Award. The award honors Union Pacific business partners who have demonstrated a commitment and progress toward achieving sustainability goals.

The winners were named Nov. 14 at an awards ceremony held at Union Pacific Center in Omaha, with about 60 people in attendance. Representatives from each of the winning companies gave short presentations on their sustainability initiatives and programs.

At the end, representatives from Union Pacific’s Marketing and Sales and Supply departments met with each winning company to brainstorm ideas on new initiatives and how they could find more ways to collaborate and work together on their shared sustainability goals.

“We were thrilled to spend a day with our business partners, learning about their forward-thinking initiatives and sharing ideas on how we can work together to make a difference for generations to come,” said Kenny Rocker, executive vice president-Marketing and Sales.

The six customer winners: Cemex, CF Industries, Dow, Freeport-McMoRan, Hapag-Lloyd and Owens Corning.

The six supplier winners: Arcadis, Jacobs, Konescranes, Trinity, Wabtec and WSP.

The award is open to all Union Pacific customers and suppliers, and based on a company’s sustainability efforts, such as the use of innovative business practices to reduce their environmental impact. Also considered was a company’s track record of engaging and collaborating effectively with key stakeholders, including communities and business partners.

“These companies share Union Pacific’s drive and commitment to finding sustainable ways of doing business that positively impacts our communities, employees and customers, while building a more sustainable tomorrow,” said President Beth Whited.
