Rail Infrastructure Guidelines

Union Pacific is committed to grow with our existing and new customers in a manner that supports operational fluidity throughout our network. Please keep in mind that all sites must be pre-approved by Union Pacific prior to any construction taking place. Union Pacific Biofuels and Co-Products Infrastructure Guidelines

  • For unit trains, sufficient track space off UP's main line so the entire train can be assembled and completely ready for departure (including air test performed on customers track) on plants' track. Unit Train must be pulled in one string and not block any road crossings.
  • Unit trains must be for a minimum of 80 car unit trains not including any buffer car requirements.
  • If facility will be shipping and/or receiving unit trains, it must have track capacity for two loaded unit trains (Ethanol, Biodiesel and DDG) and capacity to land two empty unit trains. If the facility will be receiving corn/soybeans it must have separate trackcapacity for shuttle trains.
  • Ethanol and Biodiesel Plants on UP Shortline Partners are required to meet UP requirements.

The above list are minimum requirements, there may be additional requirements required depending on the site location.
