Posted Date: April 18, 2012

Union Pacific employees represented by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) have ratified a collective bargaining agreement covering wages and work rules for the system by a margin of 79 percent in favor and 21 percent against. UP BLET members had previously ratified health and welfare components of the national agreement that become effective July 1, 2012. Wages and work rules in the new agreement reflect the recommendations issued Nov. 5, 2011, by the Presidential Emergency Board (PEB).

"We will be working with the BLET general chairmen to establish the agreement's effective date, which will determine when the new rates of pay are effective and the time period that backpay will cover," said Rick Turner, vice president-Labor Relations.
