Midwest Service Update

Announcement Number: CN2014-17
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: June 19, 2014

To Our Customers,

Abnormally heavy rain in the upper Midwest is causing flooding in Minnesota and Iowa. Two Union Pacific mainlines are currently out of service -- south between St. Paul, Minn., and Mason City, Iowa, and west between St. Paul, Minn., and Butterfield, Minn. This impacts our north-south flows between Kansas City and St. Paul as well as east-west flows between North Platte, Neb., and St. Paul. We are rerouting some traffic via Chicago and via other carriers; however, customers can expect 24 to 48 hours of delay for traffic moving in these corridors.

The upper Midwest flooding is the latest in a series of episodic interruptions that have affected many of our customers and impacted our service in June. Several train derailments in key corridors and other weather-related incidents have caused both service interruptions and resource imbalances. We are committed to returning service levels to normal, and we expect to see improvement over the coming weeks.

Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.
