Midwest Weather Impact to Rail Operations

Announcement Number: CN2014-19

To Our Customers,

Heavy rain over the last 24 hours has caused additional flooding-related damage to two Union Pacific main lines. Several areas within our Mankato subdivision, between St. Paul, Minn., and Butterfield, Minn., have been affected by washouts and mudslides. A river has breached a bridge within our Albert Lea subdivision near Fairbault, Minn. We have mobilized work crews to the region armed with the materials needed to repair our main lines as soon as conditions safely permit. We anticipate opening the Albert Lea subdivision in the next 24 to 48 hours after water recedes and the bridge is inspected and repaired. The Mankato subdivision will require more extensive rehabilitation, and our preliminary estimate is that the repairs will take place over the next two weeks. We have reroute plans in place to ensure traffic continues to flow in this region; however, shipments traversing these subdivision may incur a delay. Most delayed shipments will take an extra 24 to 48 hours, with some shipments delayed 72 to 96 hours.

We have included a map to show the areas impacted by the flooding in the Mankato and Albert Lea subdivisions.

We will continue to provide updates as we make progress on repairs and weather conditions change. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific Representative with questions.
