Weekly Service Update

Announcement Number: CN2014-44

Posted Date: December 3, 2014

To Our Customers,

The holiday week went well for Union Pacific. As typically happens during holiday weeks, carloadings were down. We maintained most core operations at normal levels, which allowed us to gain velocity. All three regions saw velocity gains with the Northern and Southern regions benefitting from improved weather conditions and the Western region benefitting from continuing operational improvements in the Pacific Northwest.

Below are some network statistics from last week:

  • Carloadings for the week ending Nov. 29, 2014, were 169,017, up 9% from 2013. Fourth quarter carloadings to date are 7% percent higher than 2013.
  • AAR system velocity was 23.4 mph, up 0.6 compared to the previous week.
  • System terminal dwell was 32.1 hours, up 0.4 from the previous week.
  • In total, we had 296,100 cars online, which is flat with the previous week.

Thank you for your business and your continued support of Union Pacific. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.
