Winter Weather Rail Operations Update

Announcement Number: CN2014-9
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: February 11, 2014

To Our Customers,

In the latter half of this week, severe cold temperatures are expected to moderate across the northern tier of our network. Union Pacific terminals in these areas are continuing to experience congestion, and we are taking steps to improve throughput.

We have begun alternative switching plans in the southern tier of our network to bypass northern tier terminals. We have also taken locomotives out of storage and allocated new locomotive deliveries to Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois to run the additional trains required from the colder temperatures and the resulting back-log. The Chicago interchange operation continues to experience delays caused by extreme weather conditions in the eastern United States and Canada. In partnership with the other rail carriers, we are rerouting traffic to other gateways to expedite recovery in Chicago.

In the coming weeks, we will continue to provide updates on rail operations.

If you have any questions please contact your Union Pacific representative.
