Canadian Pacific Served with Labor Strike Notice

Announcement Number: CN2015-13
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: February 12, 2015

To Our Customers,

Union Pacific is making preparations to modify rail operations to and from Canada this week, based on a 72-hour strike notice issued to Canadian Pacific (CP) on Tuesday by the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC). The TCRC represents CP's 3,300 locomotive engineers and conductors in Canada. While the parties continue to meet assisted by a federal mediator, the 72-hour notice issued by the union means a work stoppage can occur as early as 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015. Unifor, whose members perform safety and maintenance work, also has threatened to strike this weekend.

Following the issuance of the strike notice by the TCRC, CP announced it will implement a contingency plan to maintain reduced freight service on its network. Union Pacific will monitor the situation and adjust operations as needed, which could include embargoes on traffic to CP.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. If you have any questions, please contact your Union Pacific representative.
