Weekly Service Update

Announcement Number: CN2015-40

To Our Customers,

During the past week, carloadings declined and terminal dwell increased due primarily to the Memorial Day holiday. Torrential rains in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas caused significant track outages throughout our Southern Region. We were able to minimize the impact on our network by rerouting trains and expediting repairs. As a result, train velocity only declined by 0.1 mph. All track outages have been restored, and we are working through the backlog of traffic. Scheduled maintenance projects for the coming week include tie, rail and bridge maintenance on 10 key subdivisions, with a heavy focus on key routes in our Central Corridor and Texas. Below are some network statistics from last week:

  • Carloadings for the week ending May 30, 2015, were 160,796. This is down 11.3 percent compared to the previous week.
  • AAR system velocity was 24.9 mph, which is down 0.1 mph compared to the previous week.
  • System terminal dwell was 30.3 hours, which is up 2.9 hours compared to the previous week.
  • In total, we had 294,931 cars online, which is up 2,700 compared to the previous week.
