Flooding Impacting Main Line Traffic in Iowa

Announcement Number: CN2016-21
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: September 23, 2016

To Our Customers,

Flooding related to heavy rains in north-central Iowa have caused outages along Union Pacific's main line near Mason City. Currently, multiple miles of track are underwater. We expect the outage to last through most of the weekend, and we'll be assessing damage as flood waters recede.

Today and through the first part of the weekend, flooding is expected to move southeast toward Cedar Rapids, where the banks of the Cedar River are expected to flood. Union Pacific has two yards in the Cedar Rapids area that are in the path of the anticipated flooding. We are working with customers in the area to reposition equipment.

Traffic impacted by current and potential outages is being rerouted. Inbound traffic into and near Cedar Rapids is being suspended. Customers with freight in the area should expect 48- to 72-hour delays.

Thank you for your business. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.
