Winter Weather Impacting Operations

Announcement Number: CN2024-1
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: January 9, 2024

To Our Customers,

Our rail network is currently impacted by heavy snow, blizzard conditions, ice and power outages through the states of Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. Following is an operations update:

  • Engineering crews will focus on snow removal and clearing switches throughout the impacted states.
  • Road closures are impacting our ability to transport crews to operate trains.
  • Customers with shipments moving through the impacted states should anticipate delays between 24 to 48 hours.
  • An upcoming storm forecast for the Pacific Northwest will bring heavy rains, snow and wind gusts of up to 70 mph. In anticipation of weather-related impact to our network, we have positioned resources to address any potential disruptions as quickly and safely as possible.

We will continue to mitigate impacts to our operations over the coming days and adhere to our winter action protocols to respond quickly and safely to any service disruptions. Customers with rail-served facilities located in the affected area should continue to clear all walkways and switches of snow and ice prior to crews arriving.
