Union Pacific Celebrates 150 Years in Nebraska Communities with No. 844 Steam Locomotive Display and Commemorative Golden Spike Presentations

Omaha, Neb., June 8, 2017

Union Pacific will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the railroad reaching Kearney, Grand Island and Columbus, Nebraska, at a series of community celebrations on Monday, June 12. The events include a display of Union Pacific’s historic No. 844 steam locomotive, which will serve as the backdrop for commemorative golden spike presentations from the railroad to community mayors. All are part of the Great Race celebration, commemorating the transcontinental railroad’s completion nearly 150 years ago. Traveling 7-by-7 foot exhibits detailing the communities’ railroad connections, as well as a unique, kid-friendly photo-op backdrops, will also be on hand.

"The commemorative golden spike presentations and the steam locomotive display dually commemorate our shared past and vibrant future together."

Steam locomotive No. 844’s stops are part of a multi-state journey from Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Omaha, where it will be part of a dozen-day display at Union Pacific’s Home Plate, across the street from TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. The historic locomotive is scheduled to arrive on Monday, June 12, in:
