  • RTD, Union Pacific Approve Preliminary Agreement on Property Purchase for RTD's FasTracks Program
    November 7, 2008 - The Regional Transportation District (RTD) and Union Pacific Railroad (UP) today announced that the FasTracks Committee of the RTD Board of Directors has approved a preliminary agreement on a package of property acquisitions and relocations from UP for the FasTracks program totaling approximately $185 million in cash and direct costs to Union Pacific Railroad. Additional civil engineering work to be performed by RTD brings the total value to approximately $210 million.  This preliminary agreement is subject to approval by the boards of directors of both RTD and UP, as well as final legal negotiations.

The track improvements also will create smoother crossing surfaces for motorists and allow trains to operate more efficiently on the route between Bitter Creek, Wyo., about 45 miles east of Rock Springs, and Green River, Wyo.

    October 13, 2008 - Motorists will spend less time at crossings waiting for trains to pass as a result of $4 million in track improvements made by Union Pacific Railroad to its West Chicago Line. The track improvements also will create smoother crossing surfaces for motorists and allow trains to operate more efficiently on the route between Elmhurst and West Chicago, Ill. Metra is contributing an additional $450,000 to the project.

The track improvements also will create smoother crossing surfaces for motorists and allow trains to operate more efficiently on the route between Columbus and Central City, Neb.
