State List of ‘Shelter in Place’ Requirements, Railroad Workers Exempt

Employees Reminded to Carry Exemption Letter

As of April 2 at 12:01 a.m. CT, the following states across the Union Pacific system have implemented executive action requiring residents to shelter in place. In each of those states, railroad workers are considered exempt from the order as they play a vital role in moving critical supplies across the country.

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Idaho
  • Illinois
  • Kansas
  • Louisiana
  • Minnesota
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • New Mexico
  • Oregon
  • Tennessee
  • Washington
  • Wisconsin

Along with statewide executive orders, localized restrictions continue to evolve quickly. All employees should print and carry the Union Pacific and Department of Homeland Security Travel Exemption document as sent in previous communications. Be prepared to show it, along with your railroad photo ID, to any law enforcement or emergency management officials to gain access to your required location.
