Caliente was an important point in Union Pacific's original rail line running between Southern California and Salt Lake City. The grand Union Pacific rail depot in the center of Caliente was built in 1923 and is the cornerstone of the community today. Union Pacific continues to operate trains in Caliente moving lumber and other construction materials, minerals, corn, coal and a diverse array of consumer products in and around the state of Nevada.
