Train service began through Elmhurst with the completion of the rail line in 1849 by the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad. A second main line was built by the Galena and Chicago Union in 1857. The third main line track through Elmhurst was built in 1923-24 by the Chicago & North Western Railway. Union Pacific merged with the C&NW 1995.
