Winter Weather Impact on Rail Operations

Announcement Number: CN2014-5
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: January 27, 2014

To Our Customers,

Below zero temperatures combined with high winds and blowing snow are impacting operations in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Road closures in Iowa and Minnesota are hampering our ability to get crews to trains. Blowing snow and extreme cold temperatures in the Chicago area have affected our ability to process cars in terminals and interchange operations with foreign carriers are backlogged.

Extremely cold temperatures are expected to continue in these areas through Tuesday. Customers with traffic moving to, from or through the affected areas should expect 48- to 72-hour delays as crews restore operations and the backlog is alleviated.

Forecasts also are calling for below-freezing temperatures and the possibility of icy conditions across southern Texas into Louisiana beginning Tuesday. We will continue to provide updates as we assess the impact of these weather events.
