Premium Customers: COVID-19 Update

Announcement Number: IM2020-45
Categories: All Intermodal
Posted Date: March 18, 2020

Dear Premium Customers,

Earlier this morning Kenny Rocker, Executive Vice President Marketing and Sales at Union Pacific, communicated to you regarding Union Pacific's continued COVID-19 response. Railroads are a critical component of the nation's supply chain and we, along with our intermodal transportation partners, serve a vital function delivering critical goods to Americans. The nation needs us to keep our communities supplied, and it is imperative that we work together to deliver critical intermodal freight where it's needed most.

Ramp Fluidity

In order to maintain fluid operations at each of our intermodal terminals, we are asking you to remove loaded freight from destination terminals as soon as possible following notification. Without your support and prompt action, intermodal terminals could become congested, reducing our collective ability to move critical shipments.

Per Diem

As non-essential distribution facilities and warehouses suspend operations, we recognize that you may have freight in our EMP or UMAX equipment caught incurring per diem charges during these suspensions. It is our intent to review with you instances where receivers are unable to unload equipment due to COVID-19, on a case by case basis. Again, it is imperative that containers are removed from our ramps promptly to ensure ramp fluidity. Please contact your sales manager to work with you on solutions, as necessary.

We can be extremely effective at maintaining a critical supply chain if we work together for our nation's good. Please assist us so we can assist you and the communities we serve together.

Sincerely,

Premium Marketing and Sales
