The City of Fife serves as a gateway to the Port of Tacoma, which the Union Pacific serves in a big way, making Fife and Union Pacific strong economic partners. Union Pacific maintains a switchyard that serves the greater Tacoma area as well as Fife proper.

The Union Pacific Foundation has participated with the City of Fife in restoring and displaying our 1918 CA-1 Union Pacific caboose. The Union Pacific was also instrumental in making land available for Dacca Park and Columbia Junior High. When Union Pacific and the City of Fife hosted Union Pacific No. 844 for several days, the event attracted several thousand, making Fife and the Union Pacific "Goodwill" partners to the greater community.
