Winter Weather Rail Operations Update

Announcement Number: CN2014-2
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: January 7, 2014

To Our Customers,

Temperatures are beginning to moderate in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri, allowing us to slowly resume switching operations in these areas. Temperatures in Wisconsin and Minnesota are expected to remain below zero degrees until Thursday, further impacting rail operations.

The Chicago area is congested with both local rail traffic for delivery and traffic for interchange. As operating conditions continue to improve, it will take several days to work off the backlog of traffic.

Union Pacific is working with Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation to re-route traffic to alternate gateways of E. St. Louis and Kansas City to alleviate the congestion in the Chicago area. Customers can continue to expect 24 to 72 hours of delays on shipments moving through the affected areas.

If you have any questions please contact your Union Pacific representative.
