Heavy Rains Cause Tucumcari Subdivision Washout

Announcement Number: CN2014-24
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: July 30, 2014

To Our Customers,

Abnormally heavy rains over a short time period have caused a major washout on our Tucumcari Subdivision between Tucumcari, N.M., and Dalhart, Texas. The washout, which is in a remote location on our main line between Kansas City and El Paso is 12 feet deep and involves a bridge structure. Large amounts of fill material are being transported to the site, and contractors and Union Pacific personnel are on site to assist with the repair and recovery effort.

We anticipate that completing repairs and returning the line to service will take 36 to 48 hours. We are rerouting trains to minimize delays. Customers with traffic moving in this corridor should expect 12- to 24-hour delays.
