Weekly Service Update

Announcement Number: CN2014-47
Categories: All Customer News
Posted Date: December 17, 2014

To Our Customers,

Last week, carloads rebounded to pre-Thanksgiving levels of nearly 195,000. Network velocity declined slightly driven by the carloadings increase and some modest weather challenges due to rain, snow and high winds in our Western region. Seasonally favorable weather conditions across the rest of our network combined with ongoing investments in locomotive and crew resources have helped us handle increased volume at stronger velocity levels.

Below are some network statistics from last week:

  • Carloadings for the week ending Dec. 13, 2014, were 194,929, up 13 percent from 2013. Fourth quarter carloadings to date are 7 percent higher than 2013.
  • AAR system velocity was 24.8 mph, down 0.7 mph compared to the previous week.
  • System terminal dwell was 29.6 hours, down 3.9 from the previous week.
  • In total, we had 295,762 cars online, which is flat with the previous week.
Happy Holidays and thank you for your business. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.
