To Our Customers,

Network operations continued to improve following the holiday season and the prior week's winter storms and cold weather. Velocity improved 0.7 mph during the past week and is now just 0.3 mph below its highest level during the past year. We also made good progress by reducing terminal dwell by 15 percent, while handling 8 percent more carloadings.

Below are some network statistics from last week:

  • Carloadings for the week ending Jan. 17, 2015, were 181,632. This is 1 percent less than the same week last year.
  • AAR system velocity was 25.3 mph, up 0.7 mph compared to the previous week.
  • System terminal dwell has improved to 30.5, which is down 5.4 hours compared to the previous week.
  • In total, we had 296,390 cars online, which is slightly lower than the previous week.
