Announcement Number: CN2015-62
Categories: Weekly Service Updates

To Our Customers,

Following the holiday week, carloadings rebounded while velocity decreased slightly. System terminal dwell also improved. Scheduled maintenance projects for the upcoming week include tie, rail and bridge maintenance on 13 key subdivisions, with a heavy focus on the Northern and Southern Regions. The second half of the Worthington Subdivision maintenance blitz has been completed. The major rail and tie renewal project on the subdivision that runs from Sioux City, Iowa, to St. James, Minn., is expected to reduce delays, decrease variability and improve velocity. Reroute and specific customer service plans established in advance of the blitz helped to minimize interruptions during the two weeks when portions of the subdivision were completely closed. Check for more information on our maintenance projects (user ID and password required).

Below are some network statistics from last week:

  • Carloadings for the week ending Sept. 19, 2015, were 179,769. This is up 9.7 percent compared to the previous week.
  • AAR system velocity was 25.8 mph, which is down 0.3 mph compared to the previous week.
  • System terminal dwell was 28.3 hours, which is down 2.9 hours compared to the previous week.
  • In total, we had 296,892 cars online, which is flat compared to the previous week.
