Winter Storm Linus Impacting Network from Nebraska to Chicago

Announcement Number: CN2015-8
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: February 2, 2015

To Our Customers,

Weekend snowfall amounts ranging from several inches to nearly 20 cover much of Union Pacific's Northern Region, with Chicago being particularly hard hit. In addition to the snowfall, blowing conditions overnight caused drifting in major yards and other facilities. Union Pacific winter weather contingency plans have been fully activated to help return our network to full operating levels.

The weather has impeded our ability to safely get crews to work in some areas, though we expect this to improve as streets are cleared throughout the day. Today we will focus on clearing snow from Proviso and our intermodal facilities in the Chicago area, and we will be running snow blowers to clear our main lines. Customers should be aware that interchange traffic in the Chicago area is slow, and another two to three inches of snow is expected overnight. We are actively working with our interchange partners to reroute traffic to help minimize the impact to customers. However, customers should expect delays of 48 hours on traffic destined for or traveling through Chicago.

If you have any questions, please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative. Additional updates will be sent as conditions change.
