Dam Break in Northeast Nevada Impacting Operations

To Our Customers,
Yesterday, the 21 Mile Dam in northeast Nevada broke and sent water spilling over Union Pacific tracks bringing operations to a halt between Montello, Nevada and Ogden, Utah. Trains approaching the flood-impacted area are being rerouted between Wells, Nevada and Salt Lake City, Utah to minimize delays. Union Pacific crews are waiting for water to recede on the section of track near Montello, Nevada before repairs can be made. We have ballast trains and construction crews positioned to begin repairs as soon as we can safely access the impacted area. At this time, customer shipments may experience delays between 24 - 48 hours.
Delays in the Pacific Northwest
In addition to delays in Nevada and Utah, we are experiencing delays on our network between Seattle and Portland; Portland and Pocatello and Hinkle and Eastport due to the recent snow and ice storms that have triggered rock slides and falling trees around our tracks. Customer shipments in these impacted areas may experience delays between 24 - 48 hours.
