EDI 404 and Waybill Management Tool Updated per Carta Porte Requirements

Announcement Number: CN2021-69
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: December 8, 2021

To Our Customers,

In anticipation of the January 1, 2022, Carta Porte effective date, Union Pacific has updated the EDI 404 specifications and Waybill Management Tool with fields to capture the newly required information.

Now through December 14, 2021, at 8:59 a.m. CST will serve as a testing phase; during this time customers may submit Carta Porte information, but it will not be forwarded to the Mexican railroads to ensure systems function properly prior to the effective date. We will begin transmitting Carta Porte information on December 14, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. CST.

Although the new Carta Porte information is not required until January 1, 2022, we encourage customers with shipments moving into, out of or within Mexico to start including the information now to familiarize themselves with the process prior to the effective date. Properly providing this information will be necessary to avoid delayed shipments and potential fees or penalties (by Mexican Railroads) on the Mexican portion of the shipment.

If you have additional questions, please reach out to cartaporte@up.com for assistance. To see the latest Carta Porte information, visit the SAT website.
