Dear Premium Customers,

As a follow-up to the service update from Kenny Rocker, EVP, Marketing and Sales on May 2, 2019, the Premium marketing and sales team is providing the following additional details regarding our Chicago intermodal simplification strategy:

Global 3 Ramp Idling:

  • Global 3 ramp lift operations will cease effective Monday, July 8, 2019.
  • Global 3 outgate operations will cease Monday, July 15. All customer shipments and equipment must be outgated by 17:00 Central Time on July 15, 2019, after which there will be no access to the ramp.
  • The last day to ingate containers for westbound shipments from Global 3 is 11:59 AM Central Time on Saturday, July 6, 2019.
  • The last day to interchange a container from a west coast on dock location or ingate a container at a UP intermodal terminal for movement to Global 3 will be Tuesday, July 2, 2019. Any units waybilled but not interchanged or ingated by July 2, 2019 will be expired.

Global 2 International Intermodal Service:

  • International intermodal service to and from Global 2 will no longer be offered effective Monday, July 8, 2019, based on the following:
  • The last day to ingate international containers for westbound shipments from Global 2 is 19:00 Central Time on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
  • The last day to interchange a container from a west coast on dock location or ingate a container at a UP intermodal terminal for movement to Global 2 will be Tuesday, July 2, 2019. Any units waybilled but not interchanged or ingated by July 2, 2019 will be expired.

For your reference, attached are the available services following the idling of Global 3 and relocation of volume from Global 2 to Global 4.

These changes to the Chicago intermodal complex allow Union Pacific to streamline operations and offer faster loading and unloading of containers. Additionally, customers will have simplified drayage and reduced chassis complexity by consolidating international intermodal shipments to a single facility.

As with all our Unified Plan 2020 initiatives our objective is to provide you a safe, reliable and consistent service product.  We believe simplifying the Chicago intermodal complex will allow Union Pacific to meet these objectives.

If you have any questions, please contact your Union Pacific representative.

Sincerely,

Premium Marketing and Sales
