Temporary International Storage Adjustments

Announcement Number: IM2022-92
Categories: International Rules and Provisions
Posted Date: July 13, 2022

Dear Premium Customers,

The international intermodal supply chain continues to experience congestion related to high demand and constrained capacity, particularly drayage and warehouse operations in major markets. Union Pacific has strived to maximize container shipments between ports and inland ramps but available parking space at multiple ramps has been consumed due to slow outbound drayage processing. Union Pacific has needed to stack marine containers to enable trains to be unloaded without delay. Union Pacific acknowledges the difficulty for both dray carriers and the Railroad to efficiently manage the outbound movement of containers once they are in a stacked location. Therefore, Union Pacific is taking the following actions on containers outgated on July 12, 2022 and thereafter:

  • Storage fees for international containers that are placed in a stack will be capped at $2,450 for Group 1 terminals and $1,900 for Group 2 terminals
  • Group 1 terminals: Dupo, Global 4
  • Group 2 terminals: Denver, DIT, Kansas City, Marion, Santa Teresa
  • If a stacked container is subsequently mounted to a chassis and available for pickup, normal storage charges will continue to accrue until the container is outgated.
  • The $2,450 and $1,900 maximum fee applies to all units currently stacked at both Group 1 & 2 terminals

We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing to serve you. If you have any questions, please contact your Union Pacific representative.

Sincerely,

Premium Marketing and Sales
