Temporary EMP/UMAX Standard Intermodal Customer Per Diem changes

Announcement Number: IM2020-46
Categories: Domestic Miscellaneous
Posted Date: March 23, 2020

 Dear Premium Customers,

We continue to adjust our response to rapidly changing freight flows due to COVID-19. Today we are announcing temporary relief on some charges related to UMAX and EMP for our Standard Intermodal (non-Premium service) customers.

Per Diem

The following per diem scale is effective retroactive to Monday, 3/16.

Days 1-20: $20/day

Days 21-30: $30/day

Days 31+: $100/day

When markets begin to return to normal, we will announce the resumption of our normal per diem scale with seven days notice. As needed, we will continue to work with customers on a case-by-case basis to keep the supply chain for critical supplies fluid. Please continue to contact your sales manager to work with you on solutions, as necessary.

Empty/Empty Fee

Retroactive to Monday, 3/16, we will waive fees for containers that were pulled empty from UP ramps and then returned empty to a UP ramp. If customers pulled empty containers in the anticipation of a load that is no longer scheduled, we ask that they return empty containers to our ramps. We will provide seven days notice before resuming the empty/empty charge.  Please note that any applicable per diem will also be billed for the time the container was on the street.

Ramp Fluidity

Keeping our intermodal terminals fluid remains our priority. This will enable us to serve our customers with critical supplies in the coming weeks, and enable us to support your growth as we recover from the the COVID-19 pandemic. Please continue to remove loaded freight from destination terminals as soon as possible following notification.

As always, thank you for your business.

Sincerely,

Premium Marketing & Sales
