Albany & Eastern Railroad AERC #34

Nature of Firm

AERC operates the Mills City Branch line, which runs from Mills City to Page, Oregon, (48.5 miles) and then via trackage rights over UP to Albany, Oregon.

History

The Mills City line was built in part by the Oregon & California and Oregon Pacific railroads. The Willamette Valley Railroad leased this line from Southern Pacific and started service in March 1993. The Albany & Eastern merged Willamette Valley Railroad’s operation of the Mills City Branch into their operations in November 2000. In September 2007 the railroad was purchased by Rick and Bernice Franklin, local Lebanon, Oregon, business owners, keeping the short line's history of local ownership intact.
