BAP (formerly Rarus Railway) operates freight service from a connection with BNSF at Butte to Anaconda., MT (25.7 miles). Traffic includes scrap, copper slag, and copper concentrates. For the purposes of pricing and routing of traffic Rarus Railway (RARW) is recognized by Railinc and Union Pacific in its Genesis system.
History
Rarus Railway returned to its former name, Butte, Anaconda & Pacific Railway, in September 2007. Rarus Railway took over the former Butte, Anaconda & Pacific Railway on May 1, 1985. The line was built by the BA&P in the 1890s. It was electrified from 1913 to 1967, and passengers were carried until April 1955. The BA&P property was transferred to the State of Montana in 1985 and subsequently purchased by Rarus from the State in 1990. Patriot Rail acquired Rarus Railway in 2006.
