The Decatur & Eastern Illinois Railroad (DREI) began operations in September of 2018. The line consists of 126 miles of track running eastbound from Decatur, Illinois and ending in Terre Haute, Indiana, and 56 miles of track from Neoga, IL, north to Metcalf, IL. The DREI moves a diverse array of industrial commodities such as chemical, plastics, soybeans and corn. Illinois is the second leading corn-producing state in the U.S. and the DREI is instrumental in delivering the corn through the supply chain using connections with Canadian National Railway and Norfolk Southern in Decatur, Union Pacific Railroad at Tuscola and CSX at Terre Haute and Hillsdale.
History
Watco purchased the DREI from CSX in 2018.
