Nature of Firm

IMRR operates freight service in central Illinois on 120 miles of track. IMRR operates a line from Taylorville to Cimic, and then over trackage rights from Cimic to Springfield. IMRR operates another segment from Springfield through Barr, Havana, and Crescent to Pekin. IMRR also has trackage rights over UP from Barr to Crescent to Sommer. Connections are made with UP, BNSF, CN, IAIS, KCS, NS, TPW and T&P. Traffic is primarily coal and general commodities.

History

For most of its existence, the IMRR has been, as was its predecessor Chicago & Illinois Midland Company (CIM), a principle coal hauler for Commonwealth Edison. CIM was a subsidiary of Commonwealth Edison from 1905 to 1987. IMRR has access to industries at Peoria from the Tazewell & Peoria Railroad. IMRR has access to a coal rail to barge facility at Havana, Illinois and a grain rail to barge facility at Pekin, Illinois. The IMRR became part of the Genesee & Wyoming, Inc. on February 9, 1996.
