PSAP operates freight service over 135 miles of track in Northwest Washington. The line consists of the following segments: 1) Centralia, WA to Elma, WA; 2) Elma, WA to Aberdeen/Hoquiam, WA (including the Port of Grays Harbor); and 3) Elma, WA to Shelton, WA to Bangor, WA which includes both U.S. Navy bases at Bremerton, WA and Bangor, WA. PSAP provides switching and haulage for UP at Centralia, Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Port of Grays Harbor, Shelton, and Belfair via Blakeslee Junction at Centralia, WA. Traffic includes automobiles, forest products, scrap metal, grains, aluminum, chemicals, military traffic, and waste materials. The PSAP railroad provides a vital link to national rail network via connections to the BNSF Railway and the Union Pacific Railroad as well as Port of Grays Harbor. Port of Grays Harbor is located between Seattle and Portland, the port provides companies efficient and cost-effective interstate access from U.S. Interstate 5. The port also accommodates on-dock rail service, cargo storage and laydown areas, on-hand equipment and a host of other services.
History
The line was opened from Centralia to Elma in May 1891 by the Tacoma, Olympia & Grays Harbor Railroad. They extended the line to Aberdeen the following year, and the company became part of the United Railways of Washington. Northern Pacific (NP) acquired the company in 1898. In 1970, NP was merged into Burlington Northern, and BN sold the line to PSAP on August 30, 1997. In April 2002, RailAmerica purchased the line from ParkSierra Corporation.
