Nature of Firm

The Tazewell & Peoria Railroad (TZPR) is a 24-mile short line terminal and switching railroad that also operates over 100 miles of yard and industrial track. TZPR interchanges with BNSF Railway; Canadian National; Illinois & Midland Railroad; Iowa Interstate Railroad; Keokuk Junction Railway; Norfolk Southern; Pioneer Industrial Railway; Toledo, Peoria & Western Railway; and Union Pacific Railroad.

Commodities transported include chemicals, coal, construction machinery, food and feed products, forest products, and steel and scrap.

History

The predecessor railroad to the TZPR was the Peoria and Pekin Union Railway (PPU) that began operating in Illinois in 1881. At one time, the PPU was owned jointly by UP, CN and NS. The TZPR was acquired by Genesee & Wyoming, a railroad holding company, in 2004.
