TCWR operates freight service over owned trackage between Appleton and Hopkins, MN. On the west end, TCWR operates via BNSF trackage rights between Appleton, MN to Milbank, SD to an interchange with Sisseton Milbank Railroad and on the east end, via CPR trackage rights to Minnesota Commercial’s switching terminal, CPR, BNSF, CN and UP. TCWR also connects with Minnesota Prairie Line at Norwood, MN. Traffic includes grain, sugar, beet pulp pellets, lumber and other forest products, canned and frozen vegetables, clay, fertilizers, coal, crushed rock and agricultural machinery.
History
This line was part of the original Milwaukee Road main line known as the Ortonville Line. It was built by the Hastings & Dakota Railway between 1872 and 1879. The line was acquired by the SOO Line in 1985 when they bought the MILW. SOO sold it to the current operator on July 27, 1991.
