Nature of Firm

The YW operates freight service from Yreka to a connection with UP (via CORP) at Montague, California (8.86 miles).  Freight shipments include wood chips, forest products, propane and a variety of transload commodities. Industrial development properties are available in both Yreka and Montague. The YW maintains a 4.3 acre rail transload facility located at MP 773 on Interstate 5.

History

The Yreka Railroad Company was incorporated on May 28, 1888 and opened January 9, 1889. The Yreka Western Railroad was incorporated August 24, 1933, to acquire the property of the Yreka Railroad Company. Regular passenger service to Montague ended in the late 1920s. Kyle Railways became the line’s 13th owner in 1953 and operated the railroad until 1999 when it was sold to the Rocky Mountain Railway and Mining Museum. On January 1, 2017, Railmark Holdings, Incorporated became the railroad’s 15th owner who operates the line today.
