Every Union Pacific Railroad employee plays a role delivering the service we sold our customers – and with Peak Season now wrapped, we’re proud to say: We delivered.

“Thank you, Team UP,” said Eric Gehringer, Union Pacific executive vice president-Operations. “It was a phenomenal Peak Season.”

Union Pacific’s annual multibillion-dollar capital investments in infrastructure, commercial facilities, equipment and technology greatly enhance capacity and fluidity across the network. This was evident as Union Pacific safely and efficiently transported over 37 million packages across its 23-state network from Thanksgiving week through Christmas Eve – known as Peak Season.

“Union Pacific enabled us to provide best-in-class service to our customers,” said Bonnie Michael, vice president Transportation, UPS. “This does not happen by chance – it happens when the whole team is executing at the highest level, making adjustments for conditions and challenges as they happen. What a great example of operational excellence in action.”

Union Pacific met the 2023 scheduled delivery goal for every package moved on the network.

“This was one of the smoothest Peak Seasons we’ve had,” said Todd Lenczowski, general director-Sales, Union Pacific. “The weather cooperated and the network was in great shape.”

Team members in a variety of roles across the company play a crucial role executing the safe movement of each shipment.

“Our train dispatchers and corridor managers did an outstanding job planning safe, clear routes,” said Josh Dirks, director-Intermodal Operations, Union Pacific. “Their attention to detail and foresight are what made the difference in keeping operations fluid and trains running on time.”

Another example of one of many employee efforts contributing to a perfect Peak Season: On Thanksgiving Day, Mechanical team member Anthony Jimenez-Jones went above and beyond to respond to a stopped train, replacing the rail car’s brake shoes.

“Our efforts to deliver the best possible service continue,” Lenczowski said. “We’re already laying the groundwork for 2024.”
