“This year’s meeting focused on benchmarking best practices between rail and aviation industries, collaboratively developing safety programs with labor partners and sharing safety training techniques,” said David O’Hara, general director-Operating Practices.
FRA officials, 400 labor leaders, and representatives from every railroad in the U.S. plus some from Japan and Canada actively participated in the event.
O’Hara joined leaders from Amtrak, CSX, and Iowa Northern Railway, as well as The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers in a lively 90-minute panel discussion on practical applications of safety risk management.
Several officials from the FRA, including Administrator Amit Bose and Karl Alexy, associate administrator-Railroad Safety and chief safety officer, presented at the meeting, covering a wide range of topics, from new rules and certifications to safety and fatality analysis.
“At the end of the day, we all have the same goal,” said O’Hara. “We strive to be the safest mode of transportation in the U.S., protecting our communities while ensuring every railroader returns home safe to their family.”
