Nature of Firm

MPL operates freight service over 94 miles of track between Norwood and Hanley Falls, MN, which is owned by the Minnesota Valley Regional Railroad Authority. MPL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Twin Cities & Western Railroad.

History

This line was abandoned in 1982 by Chicago and Northwestern Transportation Company. Subsequently, the Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Authority bought the line. Since the date of the acquisition, several railroads have attempted to acquire and operate the line without success. The most recent operator, Minnesota Central Railroad Co., filed bankruptcy in August 2000. No service had been provided until MPL started operation in October 2002.
